The Palermo- Boccadifalco is the old airport in the Sicilian capital Palermo. 35 km west of the town is the international airport of Palermo -Punta Raisi.

History

The history of aviation in Palermo begins in the suburb of Mondello and the Parco della Favorita, from where occasionally hot air balloons and airships finally started in the 19th century. There also the first airport of the city was created in 1910. It followed the airfield Campo Marasà and from 1926, the airfield Boccadifalco, which was inaugurated in 1931 and then served mainly as a military airfield in years. The commercial aviation was then settled in Palermo with flying boats.

After the Second World War, the Palermo- Boccadifalco served as a commercial airport in the city. Since the airport for new commercial aircraft soon became too small and was no longer able even to the passengers, they decided to build the new commercial airport Palermo -Punta Raisi, which opened in 1960. At the airport Boccadifalco remained the Aero Club Founded in 1922, Palermo, General Aviation, flying units of several safety and civil protection agencies and military departments. By 2009, the airport was under the control of the Italian Air Force, today it manages the civil aviation authority ENAC.

Infrastructure

The airfield is located on the western outskirts to around 100 meters. It has a paved, running in a north-south direction start and runway (17 /35) of approximately 1200 meters in length.
