Paľo Bielik

Paľo Bielik pseudonym Ján Bukva ( born December 11, 1910 in Banská Bystrica - Senica, † April 23, 1983 in Bratislava) was a Slovak actor, film director and screenwriter. He was the husband of actress Marta Černická - Bieliková. It is a founding member of the Slovak cinematography.

After attending the vocational school in Banská Bystrica (1929 ) he had several jobs as a draftsman, mechanic, salesman and a policeman. He played at an amateur theater in Banská Bystrica and received in 1935 the title role Jánošík of the same film by Jiří Mahen Jánošík by the directors Karel Plicka and Martin Fric. The film's success brought him for the years 1939-1942 in the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. Between 1943 and 1945 he worked as a director of short films. During the Slovak National Uprising, he turned with Karel Krška documentary footage of the insurgent warfare that in 1945 a document of freedom were. After 1945 he was a film director.

In 1955 he received the title of Honored Artist of 1968 and the title of National Artist.
