Pamphilus of Alexandria

Pamphilus of Alexandria was a grammarian and lexicographer of the 1st century AD

Pamphilus wrote a language and subject lexicon in 95 books, which is not obtained. It was alphabetically, but also applied by subject. It apparently consisted mainly of rare terms, and definitions. For this work he drew mainly from older lexicographical works, like that of Didymus Chalkenteros or Aristophanes of Byzantium. The work of Pamphilus was later reorganized by Julius Vestinus and Diogenianos Grammatikos and summarized in five books.
