Pan American Health Organization

The Organización Panamericana de la Salud - OPS (on english Pan American Health Organization - PAHO ) is founded on December 2, 1902 International Health Organization of the Americas ( founding: I Convención Sanitaria Internacional). In German her name is translated as " Pan American Health Organization." With headquarters in Washington, D.C. in the U.S., there are 27 regional offices in different countries and nine research laboratories and centers ( BIREME - CLAP - CAREC - CFNI - OCPC - CEPIS - Panaftosa ). The OPS is a regional organization of the World Health Organization { WHO) and thus part of the health of the UN. According to Article 54 of the Constitution of the World Health Organization of 22 July 1946, the OPS is the appropriate time ( in due course ) rise in the WHO. This is not yet implemented, although the WHO has over 60 years there.

The OPS includes 35 countries of North and South America (including the Caribbean); Puerto Rico is an Associate Member. France, the Netherlands and the UK are cooperating States. Portugal and Spain have observer status.

The directors shall be elected by the members. Mrs. Roses was elected for five years again on 3 October 2007.
