Pan-Blue Coalition

The Pan - Blue Coalition (Chinese泛蓝 联盟/泛蓝 联盟, Pinyin Fànlán Lianmeng ), or Pan - Blue Force ( Chinese泛蓝 军/泛蓝 军, Pinyin Fànlán Jun ), is an informal coalition of parties in the Republic of China on Taiwan consisting of the Kuomintang (KMT ), the Qinmindang ( ' people's Party ') ( PFP) and the smaller Xindang ( ' new Party ') ( CNP). The name of the coalition comes from the blue of the flag of the KMT and stands for democracy. In contrast to the pan- green coalition supporting the Chinese nationalism and a loose monetary policies and open trade with respect to the People's Republic of China.

In the long term following the pan- blue coalition a reunification of China ( under democratic conditions ), but pursues this goal only subliminally and instead officially a neutral stance in maintaining the status quo. The main motivation for or against the coalition is usually due to the strong relationship of the coalition to mainland China. Anyway, so the economy is also a key factor in this process. The pan- blue coalition has a very large circle voters among the poorer and even the aborigines of Taiwan, due to the great dissatisfaction with the economic policies of the Pan -Green. The pan-green focus more on foreign policy than on the economy, which is reflected in the campaign issues for the presidential elections.

Origin and history

During the 1990s there was a break within the KMT between those who want to promote a stronger Chinese identity in Taiwan, which is a tendency to reunite and those who want a stronger Taiwanese identity, led by then-President Lee Teng- hui. This break resulted in the founding of the Xindang ( ' New Party '). During the presidential election in 2000, taught Lee Teng- hui is one that Lien Chan ran for the KMT, founded in place of the popular James Soong, who also subsequently distanced himself from the party and the "orange" Qinmindang ( " People's Party "), which is in a more radical tradition than the KMT. However, both candidates were defeated for the first time by a DPP candidate Chen Shui - bian in the presidential election of 2000. Some political scientists argue that Lee's behavior was a sabotage of the KMT for Chen's victory.

During the presidential election itself led to the break between the pan-blue voters who had to choose between two candidates from their own ranks, to victory for Chen. After the election, a great hatred for Lee Teng- hui, who was expelled from the party and his own party, the now pan-green Taiwanese Solidarity Union ( TSU) founded developed. After Lee's sacking, the KMT was again conservative and began an informal but close cooperation with the People's Party and the New Party. This collaboration is the birth of the pan-blue coalition. Nevertheless, the coalition maintains its separate party structures, whereby choice strategies chosen and performed together. So as a candidate in the 2004 presidential election Lien Chan ( KMT ) as president and James Soong ( Qinmindang ) as Vice President. The campaign emblem was a tandem with a blue ( KMT ) and an orange ( Qinmindang ) figure.

There was even talk of a merger of the KMT and Qinmindang for 2005, which, however, were put on hold. In the legislative elections of 2004, the three pan-blue parties organized to the extent that they have the votes shared in common, rather than to snatch each other. (Chinese配 票, Pinyin Pèipiào ) led the way Xindang all candidates except one under the KMT logo. The result was that the KMT won 11 seats and the DPP lost 12. After selecting the Qinmindang Chairman James Soong accused the KMT to have abused his party for their own interests and will not enter into inter-party negotiations more. Soong's announcement was strongly condemned by the KMT, the majority of Qinmindang and Xindang. Nonetheless, the DPP- Committee agreed to cooperate with the DPP over investigation into the finances of the KMT. On 24 February 2005 James Soong, President Chen Shui -bian met for the first time in four years, and published a " 10-point declaration " that the name "Republic of China ", the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and the three compounds ( Post, treated transport and trade ) and endorsed. Lien, however, did not respond to an invitation to meet Chen.

After the great " pan-blue visit to mainland China " in 2005, Soong and Chen interrupted their connections.

The elections for the Legislative Yuan on January 12, 2008 brought the opposition Pan - Blue Coalition a landslide victory over the ruling Pan -Green Coalition. Also, the elections to the Legislative Yuan on January 14, 2012, won by the parties to the Pan - Blue Coalition.
