Panagiotis Gionis

Panagiotis Gionis (Greek Παναγιώτης Γκιώνης, born January 7, 1980 in Athens ) is a Greek tennis players. The dentist is defender with frequent topspin deposits and strong counterattack.

The right-handed took part in the Olympic Games in Athens ( 2004), Beijing (2008) and in London (2012), where he joined the Japanese Seiya Kishikawa was defeated in the third round.

Achievements

Gionis was, among others, four Greek champion in singles. In the Mediterranean Games in Pescara in 2009 he won the final against Croats Andrej Gaćina. Since 1997, he participated in 15 World Championships, where he reached the team competition in sixth place in 1997.

In the final of the table tennis team European Championships in 2013 between Greece and Germany won the at that time 64 of the world rankings, according to surprising successes in the previous rounds, first in five sets to eventual European Team Champion, Patrick Baum and lost the deciding game in 1:3 sets against Dimitrij Ovtcharov. In singles, the 33 -year-old won a bronze medal, but was defeated in the match for third place in the White Russians Vladimir Samsonov with 2:4 sets.

Gionis played at various European clubs. So he moved in 2001 from the Greek club AC Pere to Germany for the Second Bundesliga WTTF Ramstein, 2003, he joined the French TT Club at Metz. Currently (2013 ) he plays in France in Angers Vaillante sport, with his team, he reached the final of the 2012 ETTU Cup.
