Pancoast-Tumor

The Pancoast tumor ( syn. apical Sulkustumor ) is a rapidly progressive peripheral lung cancer in the lung apex (apex pulmonis ) or the superior pulmonary sulcus, which extends over relatively quickly on ribs, neck soft tissues, Armgeflecht and vertebrae. Therefore, this is also referred to as tumor " Fugitive cancer."

The tumors differ from other histological lung carcinomas. The first described was the American radiologist Henry Pancoast ( 1875-1939 ).

The disease manifests itself often with a characteristic Pancoast syndrome:

  • Shoulder / arm pain
  • Paraesthesia (sensation disorders) on the forearm
  • Paresis ( paralysis )
  • Handmuskelatrophie
  • Rib pain
  • Horner's syndrome (damage to the autonomic nervous system )

And ... in computer tomography.
