Illyrian Daffodil ( pancratium illyricum )

The Illyrian Daffodil ( pancratium illyricum ) is a plant from the family of the amaryllis family ( Amaryllidaceae ). It is also called Illyrian Pankrazberg lily.

Description

It is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches a height of about 40 to 60 cm. The Geophyt forms an onion. The leaves are 1.5 to 3.5 cm wide and about 30 to 60 cm long. The star-shaped, hermaphroditic, threefold flower has six identically shaped bloom tepals, is about 15 cm wide and is white.

Flowering period: May (April to June depending on location).

Occurrence

The species is widespread in coastal areas on sandy soils on the islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea (Corsica, Sardinia, Capri and Tuscany ). As the site coastal dunes and dry soils are preferred in the blazing sun. Corsica is the only inhabited island on which this kind also rocky areas up to about 1300 m.
