Paneriai railway station

The Paneriai station ( lit. Panerių Geležinkelio Stotis ) is a large railway station in Aukštieji Paneriai, in the southwestern district of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. The station serves as a support station for the distribution station of Vaidotai station. He belongs to the Lithuanian railways AB " Lietuvos Geležinkeliai ". At the station the tow vehicles are loaded and unloaded. There is a container park, is loaded on the container - train " Vikingas " (towards Belarus and Ukraine) .. Since 26 September 2013, the container train " Baltijos vejas " ( dt.Ostsee wind ) travels from the Paneriai station to Kazakhstan.

There are Verbundungen to Kaunas, Trakai, Marcinkonys, Varėna and Valčiūnai. In the western part of the railway station is a railway viaduct rare in Lithuania, where the branch Paneriai - Vaidotai the line Vilnius - Kaišiadorys crosses. Not far from the train station Paneriai is the built 1859-1861 Paneriai railway tunnel which was closed after partial destruction during World War II. Every year the " Alive March" ( lit. Gyvųjų MARSAS ), organized by the Lithuanian Jewish community from the station to Paneriai Memorial in memory of the victims of Paneriai massacre.

In the station there is a trade union of employees of the Lithuanian railway company AB " Lietuvos Geležinkeliai " ( lit. AB " Lietuvos Geležinkeliai " Panerių Stoties darbuotojų profesinė sąjunga ).
