Panopeus, who was a great hunter and had also participated in the Calydonian boar hunt after Ovid, went with Amphitryon in the war against King Pterelaus and Taphians. He swore before an oath not to steal from the booty, this oath broke, however, and was punished by the gods: his son Epeios was a totally unwarlike man, who brought it anyway in boxing and the arts to some skill - he built the Trojan horse.

In his daughter Aigle Theseus fell in love and broke it for the Pledge of Allegiance, the hero Ariadne had given.
