Pantala hymenaea

Pantala hymenaea

Pantala hymenaea is next to the second Pantala flavescens dragonfly species of the genus of the subfamily Pantala Panta Linae. The distribution area extends from Canada to Argentina. First described in 1839 by Thomas Say they were, at that time still called the style with Libellula hymenea. The holotype, a female from Indiana, was lost.

Features

Pantala hymenaea is up to five inches long and reaches a wingspan between 7.2 centimeters and 8.4 centimeters. The front of the head is reddish in the male animal and bears reddish- brown eyes. The female, however, has a yellow face. She also has a dark spot at the wing root, which has also helped her to the English name of Spot -winged Glider. Otherwise, the wings are transparent.
