Panzer-Division Tatra

The Panzer Division Tatra field training, short Pz.Feldausb.Div Tatras, later 232nd Panzer Division was set up in August 1944 from troops of the German Reserve Army for the destruction of the Slovak National Uprising.

Name

The name " Tatra " refers to the Tatras, part of the Carpathian Mountains, located in the territory of Slovakia and Poland.

History

The German Panzer Division Tatra was compiled in August 1944 from various armored divisions and pioneers of the German Reserve Army, who were subordinated to Army Group South. Essentially, it consisted of training units of the Wehrmacht, which should be reflected the Slovak National Uprising. This happened on October 9, 1944 under the direction of Lieutenant-General Friedrich- Wilhelm von Loeper. In February 1945, the Panzer Division Tatra was renamed and became the 232nd Panzer Division. As such, they fought against the Red Army until it was smashed on the Raab in Austria.
