Paolo Antonio Rolli

Paolo Antonio Rolli (* 1687 in Rome, † 1765 in Todi ) was an Italian poet and librettist.

Life and work

Rolli lived from 1716 in London. He wrote, among other things, a number libretti for operas by Porpora, Bononcini and Handel, for the latter, for example, Il Floridante, Scipione, Alessandro and Riccardo Primo. Later, it came to a dispute between him and Handel. Nevertheless, he was once again in 1740 working for this when he wrote the libretto for Deidamia. It is his best work and his only, which is no editing an earlier seal of the respective subjects.
