Paolo Savoldelli

Paolo Savoldelli ( born May 7, 1973) is an Italian former racing cyclist. Savoldelli began his professional career in 1995 with the team Zalf - euro mobile Fior. In March 2009 he announced his retirement.

Career

He was considered a climbing specialist and one of the best downhill racer in the world. That's why his nickname Il falco - The Falcon. His greatest successes were in 1998 and 1999 winning the Giro del Trentino, 1999, the second place in the Giro d' Italia, the 2000 victory in the Tour de Romandie and 2002 and 2005 two overall victories in the Giro d' Italia. In early 2003 he collided with a motorcycle and suffered a broken nose and jaw and a chip on a neck vertebra. Was not due to injury for Savoldelli to participate in the Tour de France in 2003 and 2004 possible. On 20 July 2005 Savoldelli won the 17th stage of the Tour de France. In 2006, he was fifth in the Giro d' Italia with almost 20 minutes behind.
