Pap Cheyassin Secka

Pap Ousman Cheyassin Secka ( born June 1942 in Banjul, † 29 March 2012) was a Gambian lawyer and politician.

Career

The lawyer Pap Cheyassin Secka founded in 1975 the radical political party, the National Liberation Party to compete in the parliamentary elections in 1977. However Secka was his constituency Sabach - Sanjal not win and underwent a second defeat, as for the constituency Banjul Central a by-election after the death of UP candidates was performed. After this double defeat, he dissolved the party in 1980 and established links with the Gambian Socialist Revolutionary Party ( GSRP ).

As a result of involvement in the downcast coup of 30 July 1981 Secka was sentenced to death. The sentence was however later converted into a prison sentence. After the premature dismissal Secka worked again as a practicing attorney in Banjul and participated in public life.

He was later appointed to the cabinet of President Yahya Jammeh as Minister of Justice and Attorney General (English Attorney General and Secretary of State for Justice ) of the Republic of The Gambia on March 9, 2000. He was the successor Fatou Bensouda, who left the Ministry of Justice and settled as a lawyer in Banjul.

Secka was until January 30, 2001 at the office and was replaced by Joseph Henry Joof.

He has been associated with a corruption scandal in 2005. A conviction but was suspended by the Supreme Court and the Acting Attorney General filed an appeal. In July 2008, recommended that the Court of Appeal to recognize the decision of the Supreme Court in favor Seckas.

Secka died on 29 March 2012.
