Papilio lorquinianus, also known as the Sea Green Swallowtail (German Sea Green Swallowtail ) is a butterfly of the family of Swallowtail Butterfly ( Papilionidae ).

Features

Butterfly

The moths reach a wingspan of 90 to 110 millimeters. The forewings have a black base color will be, but marked in the basal region and Diskalregion of a turquoise green. Next to the turquoise- green region are increasingly furry bodies. In the Submarginalregion to the Postdiskalregion a triangular area runs. The hind wings have a black ground color. The hind wings are marked in the basal region and Diskalregion of a turquoise green. In the Submarginalregion there are several green arc spots. The outer edge has a wide tails.

The underside of the forewing has little in common with the top. The wings are brown. Inside the triangle apex - angle inner edge of the border and Submarginalregion Postdiskalregion interior angle is considerably brighter than the rest of the wing. All veins in this area are highlighted in brown. The front edge is somewhat lighter colored. The underside of the hindwing is dark brown and is heavily dusted with single, white scales in the basal region and Diskalregion. The Submarginalregion is clearly brighter than the rest of the wing. There are several eyes that orange, black, blue and light brown contained on the border with the Postdiskalregion. The inner edge is somewhat lighter colored.

The body is black and heavily dusted with individual green scales.

The only difference between males and females are the furry areas on the forewings, which do not occur in females.

Similar Species

Distribution and occurrence

Papilio lorquinianus is native to Indonesia, Celebes, Borneo, Java, Sumatra and the Philippines. (see Threatened Swallowtail Butterflies, p 113)

Endangering

Although Papilio lorquinianus is considered rather rare in its habitat, the species is currently classified as not threatened. (see Threatened Swallowtail Butterflies, p 113)
