Parabita
Parabita is a Southeast Italian municipality ( comune ) with 9289 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Lecce in Puglia. The community is located about 34 kilometers south of Lecce and about 10.5 kilometers east of Gallipoli. Parabita is located in the center of the southern Salento.
History
The Messapians settled in the area from 800 BC. The present settlement Parabita was built after 927, after the Saracens had destroyed the old settlements in Salento. Many church buildings emerged in feudal.
Traffic
The community is located at the former Strade di Parabita Statali 459 and State Road 475 di Casarano, which was downgraded now the provincial road. A train station is on the non-electrified railway Novoli Gagliano del Capo.
