History

The exact founding year of the city does not seem to be known, since there is no certificate of incorporation. Formerly called the city Baxada de la otra banda del Paraná and Baxada del Paraná. Baxada or after today's spelling Bajada is something like a ford. The development of the city was so fluent and is based mainly on the fact that is located opposite the city of Santa Fe. The official founding date was fixed later on 23 October 1730.

Paraná was 1852-1861, during the temporary secession of the province of Buenos Aires, capital of the Confederación Argentina and grew during this time uncommonly quickly. The city then had several churches, an elegant Government Palace, a theater, etc., but made in the second half of the 19th century, when it had fallen back to the provincial capital, a desert, ruin-like impression. The predominantly commercial driving population amounted at the end of the 19th century to about 6000 inhabitants.
