Parent material

The parent material of soil formation is a geological origin material from which a soil develops. This can be both hard rock (granite, sandstone or mudstone ) and quaternary deposits ( gravel, sand or peat ).

Often, the parent material of soil formation is complex, such as in large areas of central Europe where it has caused the wide -scale dissemination of debris mantle during the last ice age Auftauboden.
