Description

Vegetative characteristics

The Spreading glass herb grows as a perennial, herbaceous plant, reaching heights of growth from 10 to 80 centimeters. The hairy to bald stem is erect or decumbent and can become woody at the base. The leaves are divided into petiole and leaf blade. The 0.3 to 2 cm long petiole is hairy. The pressed fluffy hairy to bald leaf blade is 1-9 inches long and 0.5 to 4.5 cm wide, lanceolate - ovate to ovate -elliptic with verschmälertem, wedge-shaped or broadly rounded, rarely almost heart-shaped Spreitengrund and pointed Spreitenspitze.

Generative features

In singly in the leaf axils seated, compact, zymösen inflorescences few are summarized to many flowers. The first 1.5 to 3 mm long, lanceolate - ovate to elliptic, obtuse bracts are fused something at the bottom and enlarge to fruit maturity. The usually hermaphroditic, greenish flowers have a diameter of 2 to 3.5 millimeters. Sepals are about 3 mm long and curved inwardly.

The stalked, shiny dark brown nuts are egg-shaped with a length of 1 to 1.5 millimeters and a width of 0.6 to 0.9 millimeters. They have pointed top end without or with a tiny spike tip.

Heyday

The Spreading glass herb flowers in central Europe from June to October. In the Mediterranean region and areas with a similar climate most plants bloom from March to June, the plants throughout the year but generally are about to bloom in the situation.

Distribution and location

The natural range of the spread glass herb includes Southern and Western Europe, North Africa, including the Atlantic islands as well as Middle East and Central Asia eastwards to Kashmir and Nepal. Messages from Western China and Tibet are not confirmed by the Flora of China. Occurrence in the Azores based on certain entry, potentially as those Canary on the islands. The Spreading glass herb was introduced in North America, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay and Chile, Australia and New Zealand.

In Germany, the main deposits are located in the Rhine valley and its tributaries. Occurrences are further east as well as in Austria and the Czech Republic mostly newer introductions temporary. In Switzerland, the Expanded glass herb is often in the Southern Alps in Ticino and the Lake Geneva before, as in South Tyrol.

The Spreading glass herb comes in shady, fresh and nutrient-rich ruderal ago, in Central Europe typically in wall crevices and wall feet.
