Paris–Brest

A Paris -Brest [ paʀibʀɛst ] is a French dessert. It consists of a horizontally sliced ring of choux pastry filled with hazelnut butter cream and sprinkled with flaked almonds and powdered sugar.

Paris - Brest's so similar to the oblong choux pastry éclair. These are known in Germany, but differ in the shape, its filling of vanilla or chocolate custard and the corresponding frosting glaze on the lid. Similarly, also puffs, but are instead filled with more cream and possibly fruit with hazelnut cream.

The French confectioner Louis Durand from Maisons -Laffitte invented in 1910, the Paris -Brest. He was inspired by the held since 1891 cycling race Paris -Brest-Paris or commissioned by the organizers of the bike race, Pierre Giffard. The round shape of the Paris - Brest is a reminder of a bicycle tire.
