Paris Fire Brigade

The Brigade de sapeurs - pompiers de Paris ( BSPP), the Paris fire brigade. She is a pioneer unit of the French army, which is the Prefect of Police of Paris and thus subordinated to the Ministry of Interior.

Its jurisdiction extends to the city of Paris, the neighboring Hauts -de -Seine, Seine- Saint- Denis and Val -de- Marne and the European Spaceport in Kourou.

The Paris Fire Brigade was founded in 1793 under the name Corps des gardes de la ville de - pompes Paris. After the fire of the Austrian Embassy on July 1, 1810 Napoleon declared this Corps in 1811 under the new name sapeurs battalion de - pompiers de Paris to a military unit. 1867 took the fire brigade the name Régiment de sapeurs - pompiers de Paris and finally in 1967 the present name Brigade de sapeurs - pompiers de Paris.

The fire department has 77 fire stations, which are combined into three groups ( groupements d' incendie ). Group 1 contains the northeastern part of the city and the department of Seine -Saint -Denis, the group 2 the southeastern part of the département of Val -de- Marne and the group 3 including the western part of the department of Hauts -de- Seine. In Paris itself there are 25 fire stations, the remaining 52 are in the departments. The command center is located on the Place Jules Renard, near the Porte Maillot.

The Fire Department has 130 fire engines and 63 ladders. With a staff strength of over 8,000 people, according to the New York City Fire Department is the second largest fire department in the world.
