Paris Métro Line 11

The line 11 of the Paris Métro Mairie des Lilas connects the stations in the north -east and Châtelet in the center of Paris.

History

The history of the line 11 is the easiest of the entire Paris Métro.

Architectural History

On December 29, 1922, the planning began. There should be a replacement for the span -prone cable -drawn tram of the village in the northeast of Paris district of Belleville be created.

Construction began in September 1931, the construction work designed to be extremely difficult, as busy roads had to be crossed, as well as various residential buildings. The line was opened on April 28, 1935 between Châtelet and Porte des Lilas, it was extended for one stop to Mairie des Lilas on 17 February 1937.

Since the line was built 11 after all the others, they had to pass under this - at the station République there are the four lines 3, 5.8 and 9 Therefore, the line is also usually translate deep underground.

Ideal testing arena for new

Several reasons make the line 11 to a suitable testing ground for innovations: The track is curvy and has very steep climbs ( up to 4.0% slope). On the other hand, the line is not very long and has relatively few passengers, so that breakdowns or delays in the introduction of new techniques fall into the not so serious weight as would be the case with the main lines.

That's why the line was 11 for the introduction of the rubber tire drive on a public route. On November 13, 1956, he was officially presented on this line, 5 days later, the operation was recorded. It was also the world's first line rode on the tracks with rubber-tyred wheels.

In 1967, found the line was equipped with a central operations control center (PCC = Poste de commande centralisé ). In the same year here the first experiments with fully automatic operation took place in June 1969, the last train was changed. The fully automatic operation makes the driver not superfluous: This is still the order for the departure of the train. The automatic system then provides for compliance with the permitted speeds and for stopping the train at the railway stations.

The vehicles and their maintenance

Up to the conversion to vehicles with tire vehicles of the type Sprague Thomson were used. The first rubber-tyred sets were of the type MP55. In the years 1997-59 they were replaced by refurbished trains of the type MP 59, which were acquired by line 4.

Right now, 24 four -car trains of this type and 1 train Series MP 73 in use. They should be phased out during the commissioning of the first phase of the planned route extension. The platforms have the necessary for the operation with five -car trains length, but not the workshop Atelier des Lilas.

For the maintenance of the trains is available for small maintenance and small repairs workshop Atelier des Lilas at the eastern end of the route. She only has an area of 2000 m² and is located entirely underground. Since 1995 there is an elevator, which also makes it possible to bring chassis down.

Major repairs and overhauls must be transferred to the main workshops for rubber-tyred vehicles at the eastern end of Line 1.

Planning

Grand Paris Express

As part of the planning of the new driverless metro system for the Greater Paris, the Grand Paris Express, an extension of the line east to Noisy- Champs is provided.

The extension is to go in two stages itself:

  • Extension to Rosny -Bois -Perrier by 5.4 km. It created six new stops that connect five municipalities and the metro network: Les Lilas, Noisy- le -Sec, Montreuil, Romain Ville and Rosny -sous -Bois. In addition, transfer facilities to the RER E and the tram lines T1 and T3 occur. The planners expect in addition to approximately 18,000 passengers per day. The start of construction is planned for 2014, the building completion for 2019.

Simultaneously with the commissioning of the extension is to be a vehicle change: The 25 four-car sets, which are currently in use will be replaced by 41 five -car trains. Thus, the trains can then be used with 105 s time interval during peak hours.

  • Extension of Rosny -Bois -Perrier at Noisy -Champs. There he produced connections to the RER A and the newly constructed lines 15 and 16, completion of this section is provided for 2025.

In contrast to the other lines of the Grand Paris Express the line for driverless operation is not planned at present. A switch at a later time is, however, not excluded.
