Park Railway Maltanka

The park railway Maltanka, or even short Maltanka is a 600 mm narrow gauge railway in the Polish city of Poznan. It was created in 1956 as a pioneer railway. It leads through a 3.85 km long route and is owned by the public transport company Posen (Polish: Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne w Poznaniu Sp ). The route connects Rondo Śródka and Nowe Zoo ( New Zoo). About 100,000 to 130,000 are transported every year.

History

The first 600 mm railway, called Harcerska Kolejka Dziecięca ( scout.brownie travel path ) in Poznań was built in 1956 and after a widespread educational concept operated by the Polish Scout Association: next few adults (technical, management) Should Young Pioneers / Scouts learn by playing, to take responsibility in a functioning transport operation. This first 1.5 km long route linking the stations Ogród Jordanowski and Legi Dębińskie. During construction of the Hetmańska road that was part of the second outer ring road Posen, the leaders decided to move the train to a new location. The railway, which has now been named after the city Maltanka, was reopened on 21 July 1972. Since that time it is operated by the public transport company Poznan ( MPK ). In 1998, the name was in Maltańska Kolej Dziecięca ( Children's Railway Malta) and in turn changed the name now existing in 2002. There is also a historic steam locomotive from 1925.
