Lake Heid and Rothorn

The Parpan Rothorn ( 2'899 m) is a mountain erzreicher at Lenzerheide in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. It is divided into the higher and unüberbauten east summit and a 2'861 m high, developed with cable cars of Lenzerheide west summit. The two peaks are about half a kilometer away from each other.

The Parpan Rothorn is located in the Plessuralpen and is only about a kilometer away from their highest peak, the Arosa Rothorn, with the eastern peak is connected by a ridge. The eastern summit is one of the communities Lantsch / Lenz and Arosa, the west summit additionally to Vaz / Obervaz. However, this naming is not unique; so named the official maps work of Swisstopo only the western summit as Parpan Rothorn, while not directed against Parpan eastern summit has no name and is referred to in Arosa and Schanfigg as an intermediary or agent Rothorn Rothorn.

The Rothorn Railway was created in 1963 after the civil community Arosa had given as a landowner an appropriate building permit to build the mountain. From a geological point of view, the upper part of the reddish Rothorn rock edge of the African plate, which has been pushed over that of the ocean. Early forms of ore mining on the Rothorn are detected already in Roman times. According to legend, it was at the Rothorn precious metal mines (gold), which were processed in the 17th century.

Due to the favorable geographic position a mobile radio system (GSM ) is installed at medium power on the west summit. In the fall of 2011, the Swiss Army established near the cable car station, a 34 -meter-high receiving antenna with listening devices and a directional antenna. Because of their striking exterior of the popularly designated space Vaz / Obervaz -Lenz construction now as a " minaret ".

The first organized in July 2012 Swiss mountaineering race Irontrail should lead, among other things from the Lenzerheide Parpan Rothorn to, from there via the Gredigs Fürggli to Arosa and further via White Horn and Carmenna direction Ausserschanfigg. Since a route change in 2013 the Parpan Rothorn is no longer part of this sporting event.
