He studied art and aesthetics at the Université de Paris IV -Sorbonne and attended from 1974 to 1978, the seminars of Iannis Xenakis, whom he describes as his " musical father," Edgar Varèse he calls his " musical grandfather ". Later he attended the courses of Franco Donatoni. Such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, he is one of the few that owe their material existence without official Bestallung only its own productivity.

Dusapin won several awards, including the Prix Hervé Dujardin by SACEM (1979 ), and in 1981 a scholarship from the Villa Medici.

1993/94 he was composer in residence with the Orchestre National de Lyon.

Style

Witness to be of the order of things is, first, to perceive them. ( Dusapin )

Pascal Dusapin work is particularly inspired by extra-musical inspirations from the fields of literature, theater and the visual arts. It is significant in this context its collaboration with Dominique Bagouet, Olivier Cadiot and James Turrell. The strong emphasis on the compositional craft is reflected in scores in which polyphony arises as a result of carefully drawn vocal patterns and detailed ramified counterpoint. He creates rhythmically highly complex, costly for the musicians to learn scores. His music can be assigned to the mathematical and intellectual current.
