Länsi- Pasila (17.1) Pohjois- Pasila ( 17.2) Ity - Pasila ( 17.3) Keski- Pasila ( 17.4)

Pasila ( swedish Böle ) is a district (Finnish kaupunginosa ), while the municipality ( peruspiiri ) of the Finnish capital Helsinki. It lies at the northern end of downtown, about 3.5 km from the city center. Although Pasila not part of the actual center, the Pasila railway station is the railway station zweitbetriebsamste Finland. The district is home to a relatively large number of jobs and several well-known institutions, including the exhibition center ( Messukeskus ), the multi-functional hall Hartwall Areena, and the radio and television studios of the public broadcaster YLE. Highly visible landmark of the district is the 146 m high TV tower Pasila.

Pasila is cut from the so-called main line of the Finnish railways into two parts, which are connected by a bridge: East - Pasila ( Itä- Pasila ) and West Pasila ( Länsi- Pasila ). The intervening terrain of the railway is Central Pasila called ( Keski- Pasila ). To the north north- Pasila ( Pohjois- Pasila ) follows, which is occupied by a large sidings for passenger trains. Of the total area of the district accounts for over 40 % of the traffic, more than 20% offices, and only about 5 % to apartments.

History

Pasila emerged in the 19th century as a first rather sparsely populated suburb of Helsinki. The opening of the station in 1890 and the establishment of a machine shop in the early 20th century gradually brought momentum to the development, and in 1912 the then Fredrik Berg or Puu - Pasila ( " wood - Pasila " ) was incorporated known area. Since much easier to reach from all directions Pasila is considered the center located on a peninsula, suggested before Eliel Saarinen in 1918 to relocate the main train station here and expand to a sort of new Pasila center. At that time the idea was not taken up and Pasila was a simple wooden house area, but in the late 1960s was East - Pasila and completely rebuilt in the 1980s and West Pasila. From the old wooden houses there remained only a few. In Eastern Pasila created big gray slab in brutalistischem style; also, were the traffic planning of the time accordingly, car traffic and pedestrian traffic on two different levels separated, similar to Merihaka. After the architecture had drawn of East Pasila much criticism, West Pasila was built in a different, less of the concrete kind of style.

Future

Due to its easily accessible location of the district is to be expanded to a second center of Helsinki in the future more and more. Especially Central Pasila to be profoundly transformed. After the completion of the new port in the eastern district of Vuosaari ( 2008), namely the two previous, located in the center of Helsinki cargo ports ceased operations and are replaced with new residential and office areas. As a result, almost the entire rail freight to Eastern Helsinki has moved, so that in Pasila large, previously occupied by the railway areas become free.

It is clear that in addition to new residential areas, particularly new commercial space to be built in Pasila. Especially in the field of information technology and the media, the district should profile. The details of the future architecture are not yet determined; one of the most famous designs created by Italian Cino Zucchi, among other things, the construction of several tall office towers - locally spoken of " skyscrapers " - suggests. Also an underground station for future second line of the Metro Helsinki is provided.
