Paso Fino

Paso Fino is a South American gaited horse race. Paso Fino means " fine passage ". After this race a Horse's is named.

Exterior

The appearance of a Paso Fino often reminds his Iberian ancestors: The horse has a medium sized head with a straight profile, a tall pillars, arched neck, and shoulder is good skewed. The back is strong and stable, the croup is very muscular and round. The legs are slender, although strong and stable, the hooves are small and hard.

Interior

The major psychological and mental characteristics of the Paso Fino are temperament, sensitivity, nerves, joy in work, diligence and obedience; important breed characteristic is " Brio ": motivation, energy, work ethic and willingness.

Breeding history

The original breeding history of the Paso Fino can be to South America (mainly Colombia) as well as in the Caribbean ( Puerto Rico) to trace. Horses of this breed are now drawn in the United States, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Colombia. Since the 1970s, there Paso Finos in Europe, mostly in Germany. However, even in Switzerland, England, Austria and other European countries, there are now bred.

The Paso Fino is today especially grown alongside its traditional breeding areas in Colombia and Puerto Rico and in the U.S., where this breed is known only since 1971 and, as already mentioned, enjoying an explosive popularity increase.

The special at the Paso Fino is the gait as natural Hauptgangart. Extremely agile, lively and sure-footed while but absolutely vibration-free for the rider, the Paso Fino is moving in a light-footed four-stroke at different speeds, depending on the assembly and disposition of the horse, forward: Step, Paso Fino, Paso Corto, Paso Largo, as well as gallop.

A second special feature of this use horse is his character: people-friendly, intelligent and willing to learn, easy to perform, and pleasant to deal with. An important breeding goal is called under the saddle and a pronounced Willingness, " Brio " this certain liveliness.

These three main features, power and character, Brio, allow versatility and utility of the breed. The Paso Fino is suitable for easy trail riding, endurance riding for sport, for therapy, for carriage driving, due to Western riding.
