Pat O'Brien (Canadian politician)

Pat O'Brien ( born January 13, 1948 in London, Ontario ) is a former politician of the Liberal Party of Canada.

Life

After school he studied and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA ( Hons. ) ). A subsequent study of pedagogy, he finished with a Master's ( M.Ed. ) and then worked as a teacher. In addition, he began his political career in local politics and was 1982-1983 Member of the City Council of his birth city of London.

In the elections on 25 October 1993, he was first elected as a candidate of the Liberal Party in the Canadian House of Commons and took there first for a legislative period the constituency of London - Middlesex before it from 1997 up to the general election on 23 January 2006 the constituency of London - Fanshawe represented. On 6 June 2005, he resigned from the Liberal Party and belonged to Parliament before the end of its election time as a non-party.

During his career, he was initially deputies from September 1997 to October 2000 Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs, before he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Jean Chrétien from 1 January 2000 to 12 January 2003.

Later he was again from February to May 2004 and from October 2004 and November 2005, Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs. In addition, he was during his many years of parliamentary membership also chairman of subcommittees and member of several subcommittees and Standing Committees.
