Pat Upton

Pat Upton ( born September 1, 1944 in Kilrush, County Clare, † February 22, 1999 in Dublin) was an Irish politician of the Irish Labour Party.

Upton visited the St Flannan 's College in Ennis, studied at University College, Galway, and University College, Dublin. On the latter he received his doctorate and became a doctor of veterinary medicine.

Before starting his political career, Upton was at University College, Dublin as a lecturer working. From 1989 until his election to the Dáil Éireann in 1992, he belonged to the Seanad Éireann, the upper house of the Irish Parliament, at. In the elections to the 28th Dáil Éireann Upton was able to defend his position. In addition to his deputies activity Upton was also from 1991 to 1994 member of Dublin County Council and from 1994 to 1995 Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council.

Inside the Irish Labour Party, he was one of the biggest critics of the merger with the Democratic Left.

On 22 February 1999 Upton died unexpectedly at the age of 54 years to a myocardial infarction. He stayed on at the time of infarction in the UCD Veterinary College, where he was still occasionally worked as a Lecturer. Upton was immediately taken to the Saint Vincent 's Hospital, where he died. The taking place in October 1999 elections have been replaced his vacant seat in the Dáil his sister and party colleague Mary Upton was elected.

Pat Upton was married and had four children: three sons and a daughter.
