Pat Walshe

Pat Walshe ( born June 26, 1900 in New York; † 11 December 1991 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American dwarf actor.

Life and career

Pat Walshe was only about 1.12 meters tall. At the age of ten, he had his first performances in Vaudeville, already at 13 he made ​​his first appearance on Broadway in which among other things also Lillian Gish and Mary Pickford participated in the play A Good Little Devil. He worked in the 1920s and 1930s in European circuses or in dwarf troops. Because of his small stature, he often personified animals, especially since he could well imitate their voices and movements. Therefore, he was also named king of the flying monkeys for the Hollywood movie The Wizard of Oz obliged. In this role, he spoke not a word, but was nevertheless called with the important actors in the film leader. However, he turned only three more films, including a cameo appearance as himself in Panic in the Streets.

There he worked as an actor until his death, he had an exceptionally long show career at 80 years old. Pat Walshe died at the age of 91 years in Los Angeles and was buried there in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.
