Patellogastropoda

Common limpet ( Patella vulgata ')

The Patellogastropoda have an order that is attributed to the subclass Eogastropoda the worm. It includes the so-called "real limpets ".

Definition

The Eogastropoda or Patellogastropoda are characterized by Ponder & Lindberg (1997) by the following apomorphic features. The features with the exception of housing characteristics in the fossil groups usually undetectable. So that the same soft tissue characteristics apply to the Patellogastropoda:

  • Blood vessels run through the shell muscles
  • No Propodium in the adult stage
  • Simple kidney on the right side of the pericardium
  • Pine from two to praise, which are fused dorsal
  • The number of tooth-bearing cartilage ( the radula ) are reduced from 3 or more pairs of two pairs
  • Nervous system: Fußknoten around the foot positioned a few compounds
  • Statozysten dorsal (or slightly to the rear) on the Fußganglien.

The position of Patellogastropoda as the sister group of the other recent gastropods is not without controversy. According to recent molecular genetic data results in a position within the Vetigastropoda.
