Patriarchal Congregation of Bzommar

The Patriarchal Congregation of Bzommar ( en.: Patriarchal Congregation Bzommar, religious symbol: ICPB ) is an institute of consecrated life and a religious order in the Armenian Catholic Church. The Congregation is known by its French name Institut du clergé Patriarcal de Bzommar.

History

The first Patriarch of Cilicia Abraham threat I. Ardzivian (1679-1749) is considered the founder of the Patriarchal Order of Clerics. He founded after the Armenian Catholic Church was in 1750 in union with Rome, in Kreim monastery with some like-minded people a community. They lived in a fraternal monastic community and underlined their religious vows. His successor Hagop Bedros II Hovsepian († 1753) continued the work, created specifically monastic rules and went with the friars after Bzommar. Here they built the still existing monastery, which belongs to the small seminary of the Congregation.

Task

The monastic rules, which were last revised on February 24, 1986 stipulate that the members of the Order are to preach and to preserve the Catholic faith for the Armenian nation. They are their pastoral duties in the service and for the good of the Patriarchate, the communities and the mission provided.

Organization and Structure

Superior General of the Congregation is the patriarch of Kilkilien. He is supported by a four-member committee, which coordinates the clerical tasks, manages the finances and designed the organizational process. At the Congregation include currently (as of 2010), two patriarchs, seven bishops, two monks and 36 religious priests. These work in Lebanon, the U.S., France, Syria, Canada, Iran, Georgia, Greece, Jordan, Holy Land, Australia, Turkey, Argentina, Italy, Armenia and Russia. The Congregation has beside the large seminary Bzommar, for all priests of the Armenian Catholic Church, got a little orden own seminary also in Bzommar and a seminary in Aleppo. The Order is editor of " Zvartnots ".
