Patrick Coveney

Patrick Coveney ( born July 29, 1934 in Cork) is a retired Apostolic Nuncio to Greece.

Life

The auxiliary bishop in Rome, Luigi Traglia, ordained him priest on 21 February 1959. Pope John Paul II appointed him on 27 July 1985 for the Apostolic Pro- Nuncio to Zimbabwe and Titular Archbishop of Satrianum.

The Cardinal Prefect of the administration of goods of the Apostolic See and Cardinal Secretary of State, Cardinal Agostino Casaroli, consecrated him on 15 September of the same year the bishop; Co-consecrators were Gaetano Alibrandi, Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, and Michael Murphy, Bishop of Cork and Ross.

On January 25, 1990, he was appointed Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Ethiopia and additionally on 26 March 1992 apostolic delegate in Djibouti. On 27 April 1996 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, and the Marshall Islands, on 15 October 1996 in addition to the Apostolic Nuncio in Fiji, Kiribati and the Federated States of Micronesia, also on 7 December 1996 Apostolic Nuncio to Nauru and additionally on 14 July 2001 as apostolic nuncio in the Cook Islands and Palau. On 25 January 2005 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Greece. Benedict XVI. adopted on 16 July 2009 at his age-related withdrawal.
