Patriotic Union (Colombia)

The Unión Patriótica (UP) is a socialist party in Colombia, which emerged in 1985 from the political wing of the guerrilla organization FARC -EP and the Partido Comunista Colombiano (PCC ).

After initial successes at the local level, the party of years of repression and violence has been exposed by armed government forces, as well as drug cartels. Having to 1988, several hundred members of the UP were murdered, the party disappeared in the political insignificance. In 2002, she was the status is withdrawn as a party. It was not until 2013, she was again admitted to elections.
