Patristic Institute Augustinianum

The Pontifical Patristic Institute Augustinianum (Latin: Institutum Patristicum Augustinianum, Italian: Istituto Patristico Augustinianum ) is a 1969 founded the Institute for Theology History ( and literature ) of the Ancient Church ( Patristic ).

History

The Roman Augustinianum is a direct continuation of the Studium Generale, which was established in the 14th century to the Convention on the church of Sant'Agostino in Campo Marzio. During the 16th century by the Augustinian Angelo Rocca since Arcevia ( 1545-1620 ) was famous Biblioteca Angelica connected founded in 1873, however, the Italian State incorporated. After the dissolution of the monastery in 1873 the Order of Saint Augustine in 1882 moved the headquarters in the lying right next to the colonnade of St. Peter's Square Renaissance palace of the Cesi family. The Collegio Internazionale di Agostiniano Santa Monica with the faculties of theology and canon law was recognized as a religious high school in 1908 by Pope Pius X..

In obgenanntem College was established in 1965 by decree of the present Congregation for Catholic Education, the study of Augustinian theology (Studio Teologico Agostiniano ) connected to the theological faculty of the Pontifical Lateran University, established.

Today the study of Augustinian theology has risen Patristicum Augustinianum in the academic structure of the Institutum that was founded on 14 February 1969, on 14 May 1970 by Pope Paul VI. was inaugurated.

The Institute is headed by the Augustinian Order. Rector is Rino Fisichella, who is also rector of the Pontifical Lateran University.
