Păuca

Pauca ( Transylvanian Saxon terns, German turn offs, also smallpox or Pokendorf, Hungarian Pókafalva ) is a Romanian municipality with 2,011 inhabitants (2007 ). It is located in Sibiu County in the historical region of Transylvania.

Geography

The place Pauca is 57 km from Sibiu, in the North West of Ocna Sibiului (Salzburg).

The community Pauca consists of the four villages Bogatu Român ( Reichhof ) Broşteni ( Kradendorf, toads village), Pauca and Presaca ( Kerschdorf ).

History

The municipality was created on 28 January 1860, when an agreement between the then independent municipalities Bogatu Român, Pauca and Presaca was signed.

The place Pauca itself was first mentioned in 1323. Until 1919 the village was like the entire surrounding the Hungarian county Unterweißburg ( Alsó Fehér Vármegye ).
