Paul Hamlyn

Paul Hamlyn, Baron Hamlyn of Edgeworth ( born Paul Bertrand Wolfgang Hamburger, born February 12, 1926 in Berlin, † 31 August 2001) was a British journalist and philanthropist. He was the brother of Michael Hamburger.

Life and career

Paul Hamlyn was born in Berlin but emigrated in 1933 with his Jewish family moved to London in England. When he was 14 years old, his father died and Paul Hamburger changed his family name to " Hamlyn ".

From the first marriage to Eileen Watson two children, Michael and Jane went out. In 1949 Hamlyn began a career as a journalist and founded in 1965, a music record label as well as the Paul Hamlyn Group and the Octopus Publishing Group.

1970 married Paul Hamlyn Helen Guest, who survived Paul Hamlyn. In 1993 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire and was appointed five years later to the British Life Peer of Gloucestershire.
