Paul Malakwen Kosgei

Paul Malakwen Kosgei ( born April 22, 1978 in Marakwet ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner and former world record holder in the road race.

In his youth he set a junior world record in the 3,000 -meter steeplechase and was in this discipline seventh at the IAAF 1999 World Championships in Seville. At the World Cross Country Championships he won the 1997 race in the junior bronze. For further participations he won on the short-range 1998 and 2000 bronze and 1999 silver and 2001 was on long-haul fifth. In 1998 he won at the BOclassic, 2000 at Parelloop and 2001 Giro Media Blenio. At the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton in 2001 he finished seventh in the 10,000 -meter run.

In 2002 he won at the World Half Marathon Championships in Brussels, at the European Athletics Championships in Africa Radès over 10,000 m and the Great North Run. At the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, he won silver in the 10,000 m.

In 2004 he sang at the 25 km from Berlin with 1:12:45 h a world record over this distance at which by 2010 had stock. In 2006, he presented at the Berlin Half Marathon with a course record 59:07 to min.

In 2007 he moved to the 42,195 -km distance. At the Hamburg Marathon, he finished in 2:14:15 h only the 14th place, the Amsterdam Marathon he rose to 2:09:31 h, since the race but was one of the fastest in the history, there was only enough even there to tenth place. He also finished seventh at the Lisbon Half Marathon and sixth at the Portugal Half Marathon. In 2008 he was eighth in the Paris Marathon and fourth at the Rotterdam Half Marathon, 2009 Sixth at Reims Marathon.

In 2010, he came at the 25 km from Berlin in sixth place; his world record over this distance was broken in the same race by Samuel Kiplimo Kosgei. In the fall he won at the Maratona d' Italia his first victory over the full distance and placed on the non bestenlistentauglichem because of its slope course with a course record 2:09:00 h.

Paul Malakwen Kosgei is coached by Gabriele Nicola. He is married and has two children.
