Paul Marie Eugène Vieille

Paul Marie Eugène Vieille ( born September 2, 1854 in Paris, † January 14, 1934 ) was a French chemist and inventor.

Together with his student friend Marcellin Berthelot in 1881, he examined the physics of shock waves. Vieille also investigated because gun cotton chemically stabilize in order to be used as propellant. To this end, he mixed ether and alcohol to dry the result and shred later. Thus he succeeded in the development of smokeless gunpowder, which he called Poudre B. In 1904 he was elected to the Academy of Sciences.
