Paul Meurisse

Paul Gustave Pierre Meurisse ( born December 21, 1912 in Dunkirk, Nord-Pas -de- Calais, † January 19, 1979 in Neuilly -sur -Seine, Ile -de -France ) was a French actor.

Life

Paul Meurisse grew up in Corsica and was initially notary 's assistant in Aix -en- Provence. He then went to Paris, and hoofed it there as a singer. In 1939 he met Édith Piaf know who brought him together with Jean Cocteau. He got a bigger role in Montmartre -sur -Seine in 1941 with the Piaf as the lead actress. As a result, he developed into a major character actor of the post-war period. Among the classic films include The Devilish ( U.S. remake Diabolique 1996), and Breakfast in the countryside.

In the sixties, the French crime film had a big audience in Germany, and Meurisse was one of the main actors. He was not the positive hero like Jean Marais, or black as Robert Hossein or later Alain Delon. He gave his roles a slanted touch without stunts and is on a par with Bernard Blier or later to name Pierre Richard. He embodied the figure of Le Monocle in the eponymous film series.
