Paul Molitor

Paul Leo Molitor ( born August 22, 1956 in St. Paul, Minnesota ) is a former American professional baseball player in Major League Baseball. His nickname is The Ignitor.

Life

Paul Molitor played his first game in the American League on 7 April 1978 for the Milwaukee Brewers. This season, he was employed as a shortstop and a second baseman. From the magazine The Sporting News, he was elected Rookie of the Year in the American League. In 1980 he was appointed as a second baseman in the MLB All- Star Game. In 1981 he was employed in Centerfield, before moving in 1982 to the position of the third baseman. This was to be his performances on the field playing, but he was mainly used after 1984 as a designated hitter. This was due to the variety of injuries that accompanied Molitor at the beginning of his career.

1981 Molitor defeated with his Brewers the New York Yankees in the American League Divisional Series. In 1982, the Brewers were able to secure the title of the AL and met in the World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals. In the first game of this series Molitor presented with five base hits to a new World Series record. Overall, he came into the series at a batting average of 35.5 %, but his team was beaten in seven games to the Cardinals.

The next time reached Molitor 1987, the general attention. This year, he had a series of 39 consecutive games with one Basehit. This series ended on August 26, 1987 against the Cleveland Indians.

After the 1992 season, Molitor left the Brewers and joined as a free agent the Toronto Blue Jays. In his first year, he reached with his new club to the World Series in 1993 and was elected MVP of the World Series. The Blue Jays defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in six games. Molitor reached a batting average of 50 % and became the Most Valuable Player of the series chosen.

After the 1995 season, he left Canada and went as a free agent for the club of his hometown, the Minnesota Twins. There he hoped to play with Kirby Puckett together, but this had to end his career due to an eye disease. On 16 September 1996 Molitor succeeded in the game against the Kansas City Royals to be 3,000. Basehit. He is still the only player to have managed this with a triple. He is also the only one who managed 200 hits in the same season in his 3000th base hits. His last game he played on 27 September 1998.

Overall, Paul Molitor in his career played in 2683 games. He scored 1782 runs, 3319 base hits, 234 home runs, 1307 RBI, 504 stolen bases and a batting average of 30.6 %. Seven times he took part in the All- Star Game.

Since 11 June 1999, the Milwaukee Brewers awarded his shirt number 4 is no longer. 2004 Paul Molitor was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
