Paul S. Walsh

Paul Steven Walsh ( born May 15, 1955 in Brescia ) is an English businessman and since 2000 CEO of the drinks group Diageo.

Walsh was born in Middleton, a town of about 45,000 inhabitants in the municipality of Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, which is one of Greater Manchester in North West England. He grew up in the neighboring town of Chadderton and later attended college in Oldham. When he wanted to make his pilot's license, a slight color blindness turned out with him, so that he did not receive approval.

He studied in 1973 at the Manchester Metropolitan University, then found a job at the International Computers Limited in London. In the Eaton Corporation, he learned American management methods.

From 1982 he worked at the Grand Metropolitan Group ( Grand Met) and was responsible for financial planning and accounting procedures of the Watney Combe & Reid brewery. In 1986, he was Chief Financial Officer of the brewery. In 1987 he was responsible for the InterContinental Hotels Group, the then 100 percent the Grand Metropolitan Group was, and moved to New York.

He became CEO of the Pillsbury Company in 1992, but retained his position as chief financial officer at the Grand Met.

In 1997 merged with Grand Met Guinness, the new company was named Diageo. 1999 Walsh moved to England and became first Chief Operating Officer.
