Paul Skalich

Stanislav Pavao SKALIC, even Paul Skalich, Paul Scaliger, Paul Scalichius [ also: Scaligius ] de Lika, a purported " Prince de la Scala " ( 1570), " Count of Hun and Lycka " (1571 ), " Margrave of Verona " (* 1534 in Zagreb [? ]; † 1575) was a Renaissance man, a humanist, mystics, followers of Ramon Llull and author of the first work, in whose title the word encyclopedia occurs (see the history and development of the encyclopedia ). The name "de Lika " may mean that his family came from Lika.

SKALIC was canon in Münster ( Westphalia), had together with the theologian Johann Funck great influence on Duke Albert I of Brandenburg -Ansbach and became wealthy. Intrigues and disagreements over religious issues with the King of Poland led to Funcks execution and Skalićs escape [ exile ?]. His goods were confiscated.

Works

Skalićs Encyclopaediae, seu orbis disciplinarum tam quam sacrarum prophanarum Epistemon (about 'E., or compendium of theological and secular sciences " ) appeared in 1559 in Basel. He also wrote, in addition to theological and philosophical works, including the musical treatise Dialogus de Lyra, Cologne 1570th
