Paul Stewart (actor)

Paul Stewart ( born May 13, 1908 in New York City; † February 17, 1986 in Los Angeles, actually Paul Sternberg ) was an American actor who appeared as a rogue or gangster in most films.

Stewart studied at Columbia University in New York and played in the 1931 Broadway play Two Seconds his first role. A few years later he met with the director and actor Orson Welles, who invited him to the Mercury Theatre. There, Stewart was involved in the 1938 radio play The War of the Worlds and he played in Welles film Citizen Kane, regarded as the best film of all time today, a sarcastic butler. Numerous supporting roles followed. Stewart, who was a founding member of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists ( AFTRA ), was married to the singer Peg La Centra since 1939 and died at the age of 77 years to a heart attack.
