Paul Winchell

Paul Winchell ( December 21, 1922 in New York City; † 24 June 2005 in Los Angeles ) was an American comedian, actor, ventriloquist and inventor.

Life

Winchell studied at Columbia University Medical. From 1950 to 1954 he was the host of the television program The Paul Winchell Show on the U.S. television channel NBC. From 1965 to 1968 he hosted the children's television series Winchell - Mahoney Time. He was very popular on television in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s through his ventriloquist dolls. As an actor, he worked in guest roles on several television series, including as a murder victim Henry Clement 1964 in the Perry Mason episode The Case of the Nervous Neighbor and as Homer Winch in the television series The Beverly Hillbillies in 1962. Until 1999 he was the original voice of Tigger from Winnie the Pooh.

Besides being a ventriloquist, he is considered a co-inventor of the artificial heart. Winchell was married in first marriage to Dorothy Movitz, his second wife, Nina Russel (1961-1972) and his third wife with Jean Freeman ( 1974-2005 ).
