Paulino Rivero

Paulino Rivero Baute ( born February 11, 1952 in El Sauzal, Tenerife, Spain ) is a Spanish politician in the Canary Islands, an autonomous community of Spain. Since 11 July 2007, he is the President.

Life

Paulino Rivero studied at the University of La Laguna. He is Chairman of the Canary Regional Party Coalition Canaria.

Until 1979 he held the teaching profession. In the first democratic elections in Spain, he was elected to the north of Tenerife as mayor of his hometown El Sauzal. Until 2007 he held this office. First he belonged to the union of the Democratic center, and then since 1983 the party ATI ( Independent Party of Tenerife ) on. This broke up, with today find pieces of it in the Coalition Canaria (CC). In 1996 he made ​​the jump into national politics and held several legislative periods deputy to the Cortes Generales in Madrid for Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

2007 was appointed as presidential candidate of the Government of the Canary Islands, Paulino Rivero of his party (CC). His party had not indeed get the majority in the elections of 27 May 2007, but he took over after coalition negotiations on 13 July 2007 officially the President of the Canary Islands.

Paulino Rivero is married and has two sons.
