Paulo Rink

Paulo Roberto " Paolo " Rink ( born February 21, 1973 in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil ) is a retired German - Brazilian footballer.

Career

Association ( as a player )

Rink began his career in 1991 in his Brazilian home with Atlético Mineiro. There he celebrated his pro debut and scored in the same year his first professional hit. The following year, the attacker moved to his youth club Atlético Paranaense. There he played, apart from 1994, until 1996, when Bayer 04 Leverkusen became aware of him and committed. In the first year itself Rink prevailed and formed with a successful attack Ulf Kirsten, who scored over 30 goals together. He shot himself nine goals in 29 games. His debut in the Bundesliga was the striker on the opening day of the 1997/98 season, when he came in to replace Jens Nowotny on August 1 in the match against FC Schalke 04 in the 74th minute. With three games later scored Rink on August 23, 1997 in a 6-1 win against Karlsruher SC his first professional hit in Germany. Under coach Christoph Daum Rink came mainly as a wildcard for use. On 24 May 2007, he ended his career as an active player with a charity match in Curitiba.

During his last club Atlético Paranaense he was in May 2011 Manager of the Football Department.

National

Rink could apply for German citizenship, as his great-grandfather had emigrated in 1904 from Heidelberg to Brazil. For the German national football team Rink played from 1998 to 2000 a total of 13 times and was on the national team at the Confederations Cup in 1999 and the European Football Championship 2000. His international debut he was on 2 September 1998 against Malta, when he for 63 minutes Olaf Marschall came on. While Rink still came to only two tool changes at the Confed Cup '99, he was a year later during the European Championship the only DFB attacker Erich Ribbeck, who was used in all group matches.
