Paute Dam

The Amaluza Dam ( Dam and Daniel Palacios and Paute - dam period) is the largest dam with the largest hydroelectric plant in Ecuador. The Spanish names of the dam are: Embalse Amaluza, Represa de Paute or Central hidroeléctrica de Paute.

The dam is located in the province of Azuay in Cuenca, the capital of Azuay. Water is dammed the Paute, which flows via the Río Santiago in the Amazon. The reservoir holds 120 million cubic meters. The namesake Daniel Palacios is an engineer who has planned the project.

The shut-off is a 170 meter high curved gravity dam in a narrow valley.

The hydroelectric power station generates 10 megawatts machine units in 1100, and there is also the information in 1030, 1075 and 1690 MW. The plan should be an expansion to 1780 MW. The power plant provides 60% of the country's electricity.

The storage space has been reduced by sediment since the start of operations to 90 million m³. This, and the increased demand for water lowers the water level in the dry season strongly.
