Pavao Žanić

Pavao Žanić ( born May 20, 1918 in Kastel Novi, † 25 January 2000) was a Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Mostar Ratko Peric ( - Trebinje - Mrkan ).

Life

After studying theology Pavao Žanić was ordained a priest on June 1, 1941 and was pastorally active. After Pavao Žanić was 1970-1980 Coadjutor Bishop of Mostar Ratko Peric, Petar Cule, he took over his duties as diocesan bishop in 1980 and was until 1993 in service. Ratko Peric was his successor as bishop of the diocese.

Medjugorje

As of 1981, the alleged Marian apparitions began in Medjugorje, Žanić was as competent local Ordinary deal with them because the parish was part of his diocese. Initially Žanić was the alleged apparitions and alleged seers set very positive about and considered it credible and genuine. But gradually he doubted their authenticity and later confirmed the commissions of inquiry that were there to demonstrate no supernatural processes (non constat de supernaturalitate ).

During the development of " Medjugorje " Žanić came to the conclusion that a bad copy of the diocesan pilgrimage Hrasno had been created there only. In Hrasno Maria is in fact revered for a long time as the "Queen of Peace".
